According to one study conducted by Adelaide University of Australia, researchers found that lauric acid, a saturated fat that is one of the main components of coconut oil, was able to destroy 93% of colon cancer cells that it was tested on over a 48-hour period.

Coconut oil is effective in the treatment of diabetes, as it has proven to increase the “good” HDL cholesterol in women and improve the LDL:HDL ratio, which contributes to a healthier weight loss process and abdominal fat reduction. Scientists came to this conclusion when they compared it to soybean oil.

Researchers have found that lauric acid makes up about 2% of the fat content in cow’s milk and 6% of the fat in human milk.

The researchers stressed that coconut oil has demonstrated a lot of potential in treating other cancers of the digestive tract and of the body, but that further research must be done in order to truly understand how to use coconut oil medicinally.
