Symptoms similar to those that we have a day after we drink a cup or more, to a girl has turned to something much worse.
Jennifer Grey (21) went out with friends in the city, drunk a little more, and the next day felt sore throat, cold-like symptoms, joint pain, headache, nausea. She thought that it was an ordinary hangover.
However, her symptoms worsened during the day, eventually went to the hospital and there ended tragically after being in a coma for a while.
Doctors then made a series of tests to determine what caused the death of this girl and turned out to be suffering from bacterial meningitis.
Center for Control and Prevention of Diseases describes the meningitis as “very dangerous” potentially deadly disease. “To death can come within hours,” say experts from the Centre.
Cases of bacterial meningitis in the last ten years have decreased, and the spread of the disease are often featured in the university campuses where there are many people, and quite a bit of space.
However, the problem is that the symptoms are quite similar to a hangover.
“The symptoms of bacterial meningitis may include fever, headache, stiff neck. Also common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, a feeling of confusion. Symptoms of bacterial meningitis can be expressed quickly or for several days, but usually appear from three to seven days after the illness, ” say from the Center for Control and Prevention of Diseases.
In the case of the girl who died of bacterial meningitis, doctors were almost powerless because the symptoms rapidly progressed, and therefore to raise awareness of the symptoms is crucial.
Therefore, the parents of Grace chose to share this story with the entire world, for people to become better acquainted with the disease.
