The hiccup is a common problem which occurs in almost all people. It is an undesired contraction of the diaphragm.
The diaphragm is the muscle that separates the lungs and chest from the abdomen.
There are many reasons for occurrence of hiccup. It may be certain foods, spastic muscle contraction, overeating (full stomach), the reasons could be medical i.e occurrence of infection in the diaphragm.
Typically, the hiccup is created when various irritants enter through the trachea or esophagus and diaphragm begins to contract.
One of the most common ways to stop the hiccup is to hold your breath.
But there is another way that is proven that in 100% of cases stops the hiccup, even in a man who could not stop the hiccup all week and therefore had severe pain in the abdomen and could not eat.
The trick is that you drink water from the opposite side of the cup.
Strictly speaking, to leave the cup on a hard surface and try to drink only with your mouth without using hands ie to bend the head and to drink from the opposite side and not from the side you usually drink.
This works because of the unique way in which the muscle contracts.
