Morgan Freeman, he of the million-dollar voice that oozes familiarity and comfort, speaks about how important it is to take care of the bees, people listen.
Joking with host Jimmy Fallon in the 2014 video clip below that he had essentially become “one with the bees” since he turned his 124-acre ranch in Mississippi into a refuge for them.
Have you ever wonder what dinner would look like if bees – one of nature’s most miraculous and necessary insects – became extinct due to mankind’s unsustainable habits? Bees are responsible for pollinating a number of plants which often make their way to the dinner table. So if they were to go extinct (due to a number of suspected reasons), it’s quite accurate to say Earth’s menu would change dramatically as well.
This has been the case with countless other grassroots efforts that exploded following celebrity support. Thus, the concern of Morgan Freeman in this matter will hopefully turn some heads and get people thinking about the impact we are having on this planet.
Last year, during an interview on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he discussed his plan to house 26 hives of bees on his 124-acre ranch in Mississippi.
“There’s a concerted effort to bring bees back onto the planet. We do not realize that they are the foundation, I think, of the growth of the planet, the vegetation. I have so many flowering things, and I have a gardener too. Because she takes care of the bees too, all she does is figure out, ‘OK, what would they like to have?’, so we’ve got acres and acres of clover, we’re planting stuff like lavender, I’ve got like, maybe 140 magnolia trees, big blossoms,” Freeman said in the interview with MMN.
“I’ve not ever used (the beekeeping hat) with my bees. They haven’t (stung me) yet because right now I’m not trying to harvest honey or anything; I’m just feeding them… I think they understand, ‘Hey, don’t bother this guy, he’s got sugar water here.’” he added.
