Besides being a great vegetable added to almost every dish, onions are a natural remedy for many diseases and conditions. They can treat symptoms such as vomiting and act as a general antibiotic that will improve your immune system.
They are vegetables from the allium family and are rich in sulfur which gives them their antiseptic and antibiotic properties. Onions are also rich in quercetin, a powerful antioxidant which can fight free radicals in the body.
Natural Remedies. Respiratory conditions respond well to onion juice as it is a terrific expectorant. Onions benefit cholesterol levels, heart, arthritis, a great antioxidant, and great for diabetes due to its flavonoid and sulfur compounds. Onions have been used as a basic treatment for thousands of years.
INTERESTING WAYS TO USE AN ONION
Breakup chest congestion- Crush an onion within coconut oil. Coat the chest with onion paste and cover the chest with a dish towel then a shirt.
Colic- Boil some chopped yellow onion in water and let the mixture cool down before straining. Feed a teaspoon of the mixture to colic babies every hour until you see improvements. This is an old Cherokee recipe for baby colic.
Ear pains/infections- Chop some onions and put them in a sock. Then tie the sock well and place it over the inflamed ear. Remove the sock when the pain is gone.
Cuts- The film that covers onion skin can stop bleeding from cuts and will act as an antiseptic on the wound.
Cough- Peel a larger onion and slice it in half. Cover the halves with a tablespoon of brown sugar and leave them in a closed bowl for an hour. Take this amazing combination twice a day to ease your cough.
Fever- Slice an onion into thin slices. Rub the bottom of the feet with coconut oil. Put a thin piece into the arch of each foot and wrap with cling wrap. Cover the onion/feet with sock over night to allow the onion to draw out contaminants and the health problem from the body.
Clean the air- Location pieces of onion on plates throughout your home to cleanse the air of viruses and bacteria.
Vomiting- Grate a yellow onion and squeeze its juice through a cheesecloth first. Then, brew a cup of peppermint tea and let it cool down. Drink 2 teaspoons of onion juice and wait 5 minutes before drinking the same amount of the peppermint tea. Wait for 5 minutes again and repeat the treatment until the symptoms disappear. The vomiting should stop after the first dose and the nausea should soon be gone.
