Today it is difficult in stores to distinguish GMO, organic and natural or healthy food. Everything looks quite confusing, and because of the wide range of similar products and the unclear explanation on the labels of the products.
Here is an attempt to explain and help for those who are in doubt, when they want to buy some of these products.
The designation “100% Organic” means that all the ingredients in a product must be completely organic.
The designation “organic food” means at least 95% pure organic food product.
And 100% and 95% of organic products on the label should have the official stamp of the WHO.
The designation “food with organic ingredients” means – at least 70% of organic food, but does not have seal for healthy organic food.
Foods with less than 70% organic matter can not and must not have on the label the word “organic”.
These four explanations are a condition for the recognition of organic products in the stores.
The beginning of the definition of organic food is based on the interest of consumers for organic foods that are not chemically treated, the use of pesticides and the like. Such ingredients are purchased directly from growers. With increasing demand for organic food, has increased and the number of growers of such products which have a regular inspection control of their products in order to remain certified organic producers. To obtain a certificate does not exist as a condition of farm size at which the organic products or organic food, but because of the previously mentioned types of such food, imposed restrictions on the ingredients in the product expressed in percentages.
Organic food usually includes fruits and vegetables, but the term is used for foods of animal origin as well, if the animals are reared and fed in a healthy and natural way.
In Europe and America there are specialized markets with organic ingredients.
In order to be considered a vegetable organic, should be brought up according to the following rules:
– should not be used pesticides during cultivation, hibricidi and similar assets
– without the use of chemical agents in the field to grow organic food for at least three years
– fields must be clearly separated from the fields where chemicals are health genetic engineering, all must be natural
– pest problem is solved by using natural baits and traps or the use of animals that are natural enemies of pests
The rules for organic food of animal origin in animal feed can not be growth hormone, or any kind of drugs and artificial means.
Organic production in the European Union is regulated by strict regulations that have been with the development of ecology was modified and changed over time.
Currently, EU legislation requires that the organic food of plant and animal origin means the EU logo for organic production. On the label also must be a code number of the certification body that has certified producers of organic food.
